Why Are You Skipping School?

Isabel and Matt are 2nd graders who are siblings. They were referred to CIS because they were not engaged in school during COVID-19 closures. Their Student Support Specialist connected with the family and found out that the parents only spoke Spanish. The kids did not participate with online learning because they did not know how to log on to their lessons, and one of the computers was broken. CIS helped by showing the parents and children how to log in and access and submit assignments. She also printed screen shots of the instructions in Spanish for the parents, and worked with the school’s IT Department to get a new laptop to replace the damaged one. Their Student Support Specialist is monitoring their grades and attendance to make sure the students catch up and turn in their homework.
