The Communities In Schools program at Brookside Intermediate School plans a variety of activities throughout the year to empower students to stay in school and achieve in life. We are grateful to our campus and community for helping us with various events throughout the year.

Tutoring/Mentoring:
Volunteer mentors and tutors provide an hour of their time every week to work with at-risk students. Many students have no positive relationships with adults.

College & Career Fair:
Every Fall, CIS organizes a Fair for the 8th grade students. We have several professions represented as well local junior colleges and the military.

Canned Food Drive:
Every November the homeroom classes collect canned goods for a two week period. The class with the most canned goods wins an ice cream party. This is an opportunity for the kids to give back to others. The recipients are Brookside families in need as well as the food bank at Calvary Houston, our Adopt a School sponsor.

Clothing Closet:
Throughout the year Communities In Schools - Bay Area provides clothing to students who can’t afford a wardrobe. We do this through the Assistance League of Bay Area’s Operation School Bell Program, through items provided by Calvary Houston and through community donations. At Brookside students are required to wear standardized dress code. Please see ‘Needs’ tab for items we need.

Caught Red-Handed:
This is a weekly program where students are rewarded for positive behavior and it encourages good citizenship, hard work and kindness. The program promotes positive self-esteem as well.

Student Incentives:
One way to motivate students is by providing incentives for improved attendance, good grades and improved behavior. The incentives do not have to be expensive and might include small denomination ($5 - $10) gift cards from stores and fast food restaurants such as Wal-Mart, Target, or Sonic.
