The Communities In Schools program at Clear Creek High School plans a variety of activities throughout the year to empower students to stay in school and achieve in life. We are grateful to our campus and community for helping us with various events throughout the year.
Red Ribbon Week Activities:
CIS coordinates Red Ribbon Week activities that teach students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Activities include a poetry writing contest; prize give - aways during lunches for students wearing red ribbons; poster contests; and a school decorating contest. Individual winners receive gift cards to local stores; class or group winners win a pizza party.
All students are eligible to receive the “Student of the Month” award. The idea is to reward students who usually do not receive recognition for their hard work or attitude. Students are nominated by their teachers or other staff members. Nominations are based on attendance, academics, behavior, citizenship, and work ethics; or any improvements in those areas. The winning student receives a certificate as well as a gift card to use at any store.
Canned Food Drive (Community Service Project):
CIS sponsors a food drive during the fall semester to benefit Interfaith Caring Ministries food pantry. Students as well as faculty and staff are asked to donate canned food items (non-perishable items) which will then be taken to the local food pantry.
CIS collaborates with the JROTC and school counselors to provide Christmas gifts and holiday food baskets to needy CCHS families. A CIS staff contacts identified families and obtains the family members’ wish lists. Gifts are then wrapped; food baskets are assembled; and “Santa” delivers the gifts to the families.
Students are given the opportunity to trade (or swap) a previously read book for one that they have not yet read or they can donate the book to a women’s or children’s shelter.
