CIS Events

The Communities In Schools program at Barber Middle School plans a variety of activities throughout the year to empower students to stay in school and achieve in life.  We are grateful to our campus and community for helping us with various events throughout the year.

Ballet Talks
The Houston Ballet educates our students on the production of a ballet. They take the students step by step if the ballet including make-up, costumes, and choreography.

I can, You can, We all can
Canned food drive/students display team work and a community working together by donating canned goods to a local food pantry.

Veteran’s Day Presentation
US Marine Corp/Members of the marine corp provide students with information about the military and why it is important to to give recognition and celebrate this important day.

Outstanding Landing
Goal Setting/students are shown the steps of setting goals. They are also equipped with the skills needed to reach their goals.

Annual Career Day
Students are able to visit with presenters from a wide range of career fields. Guest include 97.9 The box radio station, Marathon Petroleum, Rice University, and Texas Land and Recovery.

Light it up Blue Celebration
Student participate in activities such as a T-shirt design contest that promotes and raises awareness for autism.

Pet Donation Drive
League City Animal Shelter/Students donated items to the League City Animal Shelter.

Pet Awareness and Pet Safety Presentation
League City Animal Control students are given information on careers working with animals, pet awareness, pet safety, pet adoption, and the importance of doing volunteer work.

Red Ribbon Week Presentations
Dickinson Police Department/drug awareness and overall safety 

Pennies for Patients:
Each homeroom class collects pennies to donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The class that raises the most money wins a cookie party.

Career Fair:
Barber Middle School sponsors a career fair each year. Local businesses are invited to spend the day on the campus joining other companies talking about their careers and industries.

School Supplies Drive:
One of the many resources CIS-Bay Area offers students is furnishing school supplies. These supplies are always needed at the beginning of the year, but CIS distributes supplies everyday to students who cannot afford them.  The most needed school supplies are:

  • Mesh Backpacks
  • 3 and 5-subject Spiral Notebooks
  • Folders with and without Brads
  • Composition Books
  • Graph Paper
  • Dividers
  • 1 and 2-inch Ring Binders
  • College Ruled Paper
  • Sketch Pads
  • Highlighters
